前總統陳水扁獲准保外就醫，5日下午3點30分左右出監，向民眾揮手致意後坐上轎車離開，但沒有馬上回家，而是先駛入離住家不遠的汽車旅館內去去晦氣，去去晦氣才回家，陳水扁的兒子陳致中也代父親出面感謝民眾支持，並表示父親與阿嬤相見，2人相擁而泣。

陳致中表示，父親6年來第1次回到高雄的家，內心百感交集，回到家後感到很溫暖，他也代陳水扁向民眾、醫療小組表達感謝。

陳致中還提到陳水扁的病況，開車行經高速公路時，陳水扁就因漏尿造成褲子和座位都濕掉，需要時間好好調養身體，未來無法一一會見朋友。

陳致中說，父親與阿嬤在家裡相見，都激動到說不出話，2人相擁而泣，母親吳淑珍也很感動，阿嬤還特地帶來台南的碗粿給父親解饞。
