貢德氏樹蛙的聲音如狗叫，別稱為「狗蛙」。

東華大學自然資源與環境學系副教授楊懿如表示，貢德氏赤蛙體型比其他蛙類大，約在六到八公分，是台灣本土種，曾被列為二級保育，二○○八年因繁殖穩定，取消保育。

貢德氏赤蛙喜歡棲息在靜止的池畔，且必須要有水草等遮蔽物，主因貢德氏赤蛙有「領域性」，每隻蛙會保持一定距離；若無水草等遮蔽物，一個小池畔最多只會有一到兩隻棲息。

貢德氏赤蛙的叫聲相當特別，像極狗吠聲，求偶期間五到九月，通常八月之後就不太會叫，牠的存在表示居住環境相當優良，未受到汙染。
